The ideas and opinions of Albertans have played a vital role in developing the Land-Use Framework, from initial ideas gathering in 2006 through development of the Alberta Land Stewardship Act today.

Alberta Land Stewardship Act

The Alberta Land Stewardship Act (ALSA) received Royal Assent on June 4, 2009. It was proclaimed October 1, 2009.

ALSA helps sustain economic growth, while meeting Albertan’s social and environmental objectives. It also, it creates the authority for regional plans within each of the seven regions identified in the Land-use Framework.

Public Awareness

Albertans attended public information and consultation sessions throughout the province to learn more about land-use planning, how to contribute to the development of the regional plans and Bill 36, the Alberta Land Stewardship Act.
