Regional Plans
The Land-use Framework is the government’s response to growth pressures in a changing Alberta.
The framework establishes seven new land-use regions and the requirement to develop a regional plan for each. The plans will be completed by 2012.
With these regional plans, Alberta will achieve a better balance between the economic development that creates opportunity and the environmental and social values of Albertans.
The government is moving forward with the framework:
-
The Alberta Land Stewardship Act received Royal Assent on June 4, 2009. It was proclaimed October 1, 2009.
-
Work has begun for the first two regions, Lower Athabasca and South Saskatchewan, with Regional
advisory councils appointed for each
-
Throughout spring 2009, government sought the views of Albertans, hosting
stewardship act and Lower Athabasca regional plan information sessions, and
consultations with Aboriginal communities
